Partnership with Parents

We really value parents’ and families’ contribution to the pre-school community.

Home and Pre-School Links

Children’s self-esteem grows if they feel comfortable to talk about themselves, their interests and their home life. We therefore aim to build a bridge between home and pre-school by; encouraging children to bring in toys and objects for ‘show and tell’; challenging children to bring in objects that begin with the ‘letter of the week’; sending home the group animal bag and busy book for families to write, draw, add photos in to be shared with their key group.

Keeping Informed

We enjoy talking with you about your child and we are on hand for informal chats at drop off and pick up times. We also hold more formal sessions, for instance, parent social evenings in October and July plus individual parent meetings during the Spring. Our weekly e-newsletter keeps you up to date with what your child's involved in at pre-school and upcoming events/ outings.

Tapestry Learning Journals

We use an innovative, interactive, on-line learning journal called Tapestry to capture and record all the fun and learning involved in a child's early years education. Parents can access this 24/7 and it provides an insight into a child's pre-school experience, documenting their wonderful, developmental journey. It's a wonderful home/ school link, parents can make comments and add their own observations, sharing achievements and news from home.

Helping at Harcourt

We welcome parent helpers. You can choose for how long you wish to help; as a one off, occasional or on a regular basis. We have a ‘Helping at Harcourt’ leaflet which will give you further details. Please note, we are registered for a set number of children each day and, therefore, siblings or other children will not be able to come with you.

The children always enjoy having parents come in to talk to them. It may be about a festival the family celebrate at home, a hobby, a newly arrived baby or about their job. Parents, and especially dads, come in to read the children stories at Story Time.

Events and Socials

We hold various events through the year these include; Autumn walk to the Downs, children’s performances, fund-raising events such as our fantastic Promises Auction, Harcourt disco extravaganza, coffee mornings, parents ‘drinks & nibbles’ evenings, walks to the local shops and an end of year outing to Wild Place. Details will be noted in the e-newsletter. We hope you will find these events as enjoyable as we do.

Parent Views

We continually evaluate our practice and look at ways we can improve what we offer the children and families that attend the setting. Your viewpoint is very important in this process and, throughout the year, we may canvas your opinions through questionnaires. There is also a Suggestion Box in the cloakroom if you wish to say anything anonymously.

Parent Reps

We have parent reps from each of our three groups to help organise social / fundraising events for pre-school, to keep parents informed of any updates and to arrange get togethers for the parents. We compile a voluntary contact list for families attending the Pre-School which can be used to make their own social arrangements.
